Siding Repair in Langley, WA

Siding Repair · Langley, WA

Damaged boards replaced, and the leak behind them fixed

Siding repair fixes the walls your house already has. We replace cracked, split, warped and loose boards, shingles and panels, and patch holes. When a stain or soft spot shows up, we find the leak behind it and fix that too. We repair wood and cedar siding, and a repair can also cover fiber cement or vinyl siding.

We are a siding contractor based in Langley, on the south end of Whidbey Island. We work across the island, on Camano Island and on the nearby mainland. When damage runs across most of the house, siding installation makes more sense than another patch. Estimates are free, so call or text (360) 544-9655 and we will get back to you.

What We Handle

  • Cracked, split, warped and loose wood siding boards replaced to match
  • Cedar shingles and cedar boards matched for profile, species and size
  • Holes patched, and siding repaired after a windstorm or a fallen branch
  • Cracked fiber cement boards and broken vinyl panels replaced
  • Leaks behind stains and soft spots traced to flashing, trim or gutters
  • Failed flashing repaired at windows, doors and the roof-to-wall line, with kick-out flashing added where it is missing
  • House wrap behind the repaired section patched and lapped to shed water
  • New boards primed, painted or stained to blend, and the old siding hauled away

Why does water get behind siding on Whidbey Island?

The Olympic Mountains put Whidbey in a rain shadow, yet rain still falls on about 120 days a year. The south end of the island averages 30-plus inches of rain a year. Wind off the water drives that rain into the walls, and big firs keep some walls shaded and damp.

Water usually gets in where siding meets something else. Building codes call for flashing at windows and doors, above trim and where a roof meets a wall. Where a roof's low edge meets a wall, a kick-out flashing should turn water away from the wall. When that flashing is missing, rain runs down behind the siding below it.

A gutter that overflows soaks the fascia and the wall below it when it rains. We trace each stain back to where the water gets in, and fix that before any new boards go on. Rot that has spread into sills, trim or framing calls for wood rot repair. Rotted fascia and soffits call for soffit and fascia repair.

How do you fix damaged wood and cedar siding?

We open the wall around the damage and check what sits behind it. Cracked, split, warped or loose boards and shingles come off. If the sheathing behind them is soft, we show you before anything is covered again.

Next, the house wrap and flashing behind the section get patched. Each piece laps over the one below it, like shingles, so water runs out of the wall. New boards or shingles go in to match the profile, species and size of the old ones.

Cedar turns grey as it weathers, so a new cedar patch on a bare wall can stand out at first. Painted siding gets primed and painted to match. Covering a whole wall in new cedar shingles or board and batten is a cedar siding installation job.

Storm damage siding repair and your insurance claim

Windstorms tear siding loose, and falling branches crack boards and punch holes. We replace the damaged siding and repair the house wrap behind it. If the same storm hit your roof, see emergency roof repair.

On one job, a tree fell on a farmhouse during a high-wind storm. We worked directly with the homeowner's insurance company and itemized the scope of work. Once the claim was approved, we completed the repair, siding and roofing work. Our carpenters and roofing crew work together on major storm repairs like that one.

Storm damage gets worse the longer a wall sits open to rain. Washington's insurance commissioner says insurance won't cover water damage if you delay repairs. After a storm, call or text us and we will get back to you.

FAQ

Siding Repair Questions, Answered

Common questions about siding repair across Whidbey Island, Camano Island and the Skagit side. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (360) 544-9655

Can you replace just one board or panel of siding?
Often, yes. A cracked wood board or cedar shingle can be cut out and replaced on its own. A broken vinyl panel or a cracked fiber cement board can usually be swapped the same way. The harder part is the match, since colors fade and some profiles are no longer made.
Does homeowners insurance cover siding repair?
It depends on your policy and on what caused the damage. Washington's insurance commissioner says homeowner insurance often covers sudden, accidental water damage. Most policies do not cover gradual leaks that have gone on a long time. Ask your insurance agent for specifics, and we can itemize the repair scope for your claim.
How much does siding repair cost?
The price follows the damage: how many boards or panels, and how far water got behind them. Rot behind the boards, new flashing, a hard-to-match profile or a second-story wall can each add work. Estimates are free, so call or text (360) 544-9655. Market ranges are in our guide to siding repair cost in Washington.
How often should siding be inspected?
Look your siding over yourself each spring, and again after a big windstorm. Check for cracked or loose boards and gaps where siding meets trim. Peeling paint in one patch, or a dark stain under a window, can mean water is getting in. If you find a soft spot, call or text us for a free estimate.
When does siding repair stop making sense?
When boards cup, split or go soft on wall after wall, another patch only buys time. Old siding with no house wrap behind it points to new siding too. Our guide to siding replacement cost in Washington covers what new siding costs.
Do you do siding repair in Oak Harbor?
Yes. We are based in Langley and do siding repair across Whidbey Island, from Clinton up to Oak Harbor. We also work on Camano Island and in Anacortes, Mount Vernon, Burlington and Stanwood. One Google reviewer recommends us to "anyone on Whidbey looking for roofing or siding work."

They installed a new metal roof on the house we purchased and were able to start quickly which meant it was nearly done by the time we moved in. We had a great experience working with Jeff who was very helpful with suggestions on some cosmetic changes we made and the entire roof and gables came out nicely. Very pleased with this company and would recommend them to anyone on Whidbey looking for roofing or siding work.

Whidbey Roof and Siding did an outstanding job. Very professional! No playing games came in with the lowest bid. We did run into a few surprises, but Jeff was very clear and transparent about what it would take to correct the issue. Very glad I had someone who could deal with the issues. As one recent visitor said the skylight looks like it was here all along and not an after thought addition. Highly recommend
