Shore Avenue Project

This project is located on Shore Avenue, Whidbey Island. We fully restored a building that had suffered significant damage due to the absence of a vapor barrier and proper underlayment beneath the original siding. The previous use of OSB instead of high-quality plywood led to widespread deterioration.

We replaced all compromised plywood and much of the framing, along with the heavily damaged south-facing siding, which had taken the brunt of relentless winds and rain. New, energy-efficient windows were also installed.

For the roofing, we upgraded to a Nu-Ray 24-gauge Ocean Guard metal roof—a durable, lifelong solution—paired with an ice and water shield beneath to protect the new CDX plywood and provide superior resistance to moisture and high winds.

The siding was completely redone using elegant sanded shingles with intricately weaved corners, enhancing both strength and curb appeal. Waterproofing with breathable membranes and advanced flashings is essential in any high-quality building project, especially in exposed beachfront locations like Shore Avenue.

With high winds, driving rain, and stormy coastal conditions, robust protection against moisture intrusion is critical. By using breathable membranes behind the siding and strategic waterproof flashings at every vulnerable point, we ensure the home not only sheds water efficiently but also allows the structure to breathe—preventing trapped moisture and long-term damage.

This approach delivers lasting defense against harsh coastal elements and reflects our commitment to building homes that are both beautiful and resilient for years to come.
